It’s Wednesday. Wednesday is new comic book day.

(Yes, I know it is not Wednesday. It was when I wrote it)

On a pretty solid trip to Portland, for the Oregon Brewfest, we stopped off at Powell’s and went in search of literary treasures. Material for many “new comic book” days to come was supplied while looking in their assembled superhero collections, as I stumbled across a good deal of the Marvel Civil War collections. I realize these are not new comic books per say, but as I only actively follow one line of comic books, I tend to pick up new books on subject of interest rather than chronological imperative. Also, as I have not really gone over it before, a good deal of these Wednesday posts will be regarding the various Civil War pieces I’ve acquired, which hopefully will be all of them.

I suppose I should dedicate the first of these to establish what kind of comic book reader I am.  My knowledge of the various canons of comic books is not just from comics themselves, but from adaptations of classic IP that was rampant during the 90’s that almost universally included “The Animated Series” following a colon. As a child of those times I was acquainted with the majority of mutants, heroes, villains, and henchmen, but not intimately familiar. It was this way until the producers of the host of Saturday morning cartoons wisely re-targeted my demographic as we came into our independent years by creating the superhero blockbuster.  It was really Bryan Singer’s X-Men that found the key balance between what works on the silver screen, and what works inside the printed panel. Comics and their characters had been tugged out of their campy roots and into the mainstream.

It took a few summers of massive CGI and a move into independence for me to pick up comic books again. As it stands, I don’t have a massive selection of books, and I greatly desire to pick up completed story arcs rather than wait through a cliffhanger every month.  As it is, I have enough of a backlog to attempt to make this a weekly post as I go over a piece of my illustrated collection.  First up, Civil War: War Crimes

Mobi-blogging.

September 22nd, 2009 Lunacite No comments

So this is a first, this entire post will have been composed ane edited on my Blackberry. I searched my office for a notepad, but failed to find anything larger than 3×5, so I activated the full docs to go suite on my mobile, since I’ve been meaning to blog, but wouldn’t be at my desk much today.

Its been a hectic month, Nate moved in till his room at the U opens, and its been really neat having him around. The house has gotten a bit messy after a couple back to back parties, we really need to take a Saturday to deep clean it. Once Nate gets into his dorm it’ll be simpler.

New roommates! Hopefully everything goes smoothly with the screener and they get to move in as planned. At the very least, my wallet won’t be as anorexically thin as it is now. It’ll be weird to be in a full house again, but definitely welcome to have some ladies around.

I had totally forgotten that TV series begin to pick up in the fall, I’ve been trying to catch up on House before I start the new season. Dexter starts this sunday, and this season looks pretty promising, Keith Carradine returns and John Lithgow joins the cast as well, and it’s always nice to see more of Julie Benz.

I think that the format on my phone is making me think this is longer than it is, and not just a series of random twitter-length posts. Not that it really matters, but I’d get more of a sense of accomplishment from typing MORE in the BlackBerry than less. I don’t think I’m using the full potential of the device, and I’d like to change that, but I wish there were more free apps, the app store seems a little bare. I also wish there was a way to browse it from my pc.

So I just checked by loading this doc into full word 2003 at work, and its actually the same length as it appears in word to go. I’ve been incredibly impressed with the whole dataviz suite, I’ll probably pick it up once my trial is over. I don’t know how useful powerpoint to go will be though, I have yet to require a presentation be prepared sans computer.

I’m also fairly impressed at the speee at which I can continue typing on the storm screen. So far I’ve been relatively error free, and can do about three sentences a minute, which isn’t bad since I’m composing and not transcribing something.

Post lunch I’ve been hit with a wave of lethargy, walking around the office in a semi-daze, waiting to be snapped back to reality by a coworker. These chairs are terrible. The lights hurt my eyes. I need some water. Might take a nap when I get home. Blargh.

I think this may turn out to be one of my longest blogs, which mostly validates using word to go on the BB and proves it as a viable platform for such things

Update!

June 3rd, 2009 Lunacite No comments

So it’s been awhile since I decided to do a proper update. Was going to do last night, but got distracted by watching Fanboys and playing CoD 4. Still unpacking from my nonmove, and going through my stuff as it gets out of the box. It turns out I’ve been keeping a lot of silly stuff/packaging/garbage.

Found a roommate, so I get to stay in my awesomehaus. Just going through the screening process, but that shouldn’t be an issue. Welcome to @arendon! Still looking for one or two more people, contact me at chris (at) lunacite (dot) com if you’re interested.

Other news, we’re getting close to PAX season, looking at the new releases that are gonna be there, the first that jumps out at me is Natural Selection 2. Original NS was an AMAZING game, and I have high hopes for NS2. As soon as I have some free cash, pre-ordering the special edition.

The second release I’m looking at now is Assassin’s Creed 2. I’m a HUGE fan of the first, and this one looks even better. I’m really hoping Ubisoft comes out with something cool for PAX, I missed the initial Assassin’s Creed feature they had, and it’s one of my few PAX regrets.

A third thing I’m looking forward to for PAX, not really game related, is picking up a Utilikilt for this one. I’ve been wanting to for a couple years, first time I opted to get a DS instead, second time I’m not sure what stopped me. Thinking tan, to match my Oakley boots that I will most certainly be wearing. My shoes last year failed me.

That’s all I can think of right now, I had initially planeed more for this post, but meh. It’ll show up when it shows up.

Google doc publish

April 22nd, 2009 Lunacite No comments

Blog post?

–Edit/Update
So this is pretty cool, I can now publish Google docs directly to my blog, which isn’t all that huge since I’m trading one web interface for another, but since I can import things into Google Docs, it does add a few options for me.

Double edit….I have to use wordpress still to tag/title/categorize…I think….hmm…
